An unusual outlet is located in the middle of a garbage island located in the North Pacific Ocean.
Renowned manufacturer of sports conversion Shoe hopes that the unusual undertaking will draw additional public attention to the problem of debris in the ocean. Today, a huge amount of a wide variety of plastic waste has accumulated in the North Pacific Ocean, forming a garbage island known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch or the Eastern Garbage Continent. According to some studies, the size of this formation already exceeds France in area and continues to grow rapidly, causing irreparable harm to the environment. The problem of cleaning up this garbage is becoming more and more acute every day.
As part of the original initiative, Converse will open a Renew Labs virtual store right in the middle of this island. Visitors will have the opportunity not only to purchase the latest models of sneakers, but also to “walk” on the garbage island and assess the scale of the environmental problem. All the funds that will be collected from sales will go to finance projects to clean up ocean waters. The store was created by specialists from the creative agency Virtue, owned by the American-Canadian media company VICE.
The store has already started its activities, but the appearance of new products (among which there will be many exclusive offers) will take place in stages. So, the next "delivery" will take place on May 8, it will be timed to coincide with the World Oceans Day. Among other things, visitors will also be able to purchase the Renew Crater, billed as the most environmentally friendly of all Converse shoes - these 35% running shoes are made from 100% recycled materials.
The store is expected to be open for 8 weeks. The company expects that this period will be enough to remove so much garbage from the ocean that the unusual outlet would have nothing to “stand on” and it would “collapse”.
