Allbirds has unveiled a limited edition sneaker created in collaboration with startup Just Water.
Sneaker manufacturers often come up with the most unexpected collaborations. Startup Koio, in collaboration with baker Dominique Ansel, recently released sneakers inspired by croissants. And Vans presented a collection dedicated to the four faculties of Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry from the Harry Potter saga.
But perhaps the most unusual collaboration was with Allbirds, which introduced a limited edition sneaker created in collaboration with Just Water, a brand of water in boxes, similar to those that sell dairy products. However, cooperation is not as strange as it might seem at first glance. Both manufacturers are famous for being able to develop a new approach to creating familiar things. And they both hold the B Corporation certification, which requires companies to meet social sustainability and environmental performance standards, standards of accountability and transparency to the public.
There are other similarities as well. So, last year, Allbirds found a way to make plastic soles from Brazilian sugar cane rather than fossil fuels. The company did not keep this technology secret, but made it publicly available. And Just Water has recently used this technology to create caps.
There are two kinds Allbirds sneakers - with a high top ($115) and for running ($95). Both of them have a similar design - almost completely white with blue accents, that is, they look very similar to Just Water packaging. On the back of the shoe is a small tag with a drop of water.
100% of the proceeds from this collaboration will benefit the Earth Alliance created by Leonardo DiCaprio, who is also an Allbirds investor.
