This brand owes its birth to the fact that in January 2006 Sony acquired the production of cameras from the company Minolta, which by that time was already part of the holding Konica Minolta.

The first model, the 10 megapixel Sony Alpha DSLR-A100, was introduced on June 5, 2006. This model was still a "hodgepodge" of components Sony и Minolta.
