Anna was born on August 4, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan. She is of Chinese origin. Her father was an engineer, her mother an artist; They met in Paris during their student years. After many years of wandering around the world, they decided to settle in the USA, where their daughter was born.

Anna studied at Parsons - the famous and respected New York School of Design (Parsons The New School for Design). It was the decision to move from boring Detroit, which is most associated with the American auto industry, to New York, which was oversaturated with life, and played one of the key roles in the life of an aspiring designer.

Studying at Parsons brought me to Steven Meisel, one of today's most famous photographers. It was he who conducted the first photo session of Anna's works. Steve is still her companion and friend to this day. Anna's creations were published in an Italian magazine LEI. That is, Anna Sui got to the glossy pages even before graduation.

After leaving the walls of the design school, Anna worked for a while, creating styles for sports brands. Her out-of-the-box thinking and ability to see things from a different angle led to the fact that the designer was asked to either do what was required of her or just leave. Anna Sui remained true to her talent and decided to act on her own.
