In just a few months, we are waiting for the appearance of two new major streaming TV services at once - Apple TV + and Disney +.
November of this year promises to be an extremely interesting month for the world of TV streaming. After all, two brand new video services from Apple and Disney will be launched this month. For the first time, these companies will venture into brand new territory once dominated by Netflix and HBO.
Entering the market of Apple and Disney was quite expected. The first company has been developing in this direction for many years, the second owns countless popular entertainment franchises, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and some of its own creations. It is still difficult to say how companies will enter a new market for themselves, but it is already possible to make some comparisons of the services that await us.
Apple TV+
The cost of the subscription is not yet known, according to rumors, it will be $9.99 per month. A launch date has not yet been announced.
The main advantage of this service is in the strong Apple ecosystem. Owners of the company's devices will certainly want to try out the new service. Many of them will then use it only for the reason that it will be available out of the box on all MacBooks, iPads and iPhones. Apple is also not too stingy with investments - according to CNBC, the company has already allocated $ 6 billion for content for the service. And talented individuals such as Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, Oprah, Jason Mamoa and Steven Spielberg will help attract an audience.
However, Apple is not yet able to offer subscribers enough content. Some users will prefer to wait until the service actually fills up. Besides Apple plans open to viewers several episodes at once, and then add one episode once a week. This may not appeal to users who are used to the Netflix system of uploading the entire season at once.
However, most likely, the company still does not consider Apple TV + as a full-fledged service that can oust competitors. For a while, this will just be a nice addition to services like Apple Music to Apple News+. Recently, the company has been doing very well, it can afford such long-term projects.
Disney+
The cost is $6.99 per month (or $12.99 per month for a bundle that includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+). The service will launch simultaneously in the US, Canada and the Netherlands on November 12.
Disney has a very strong brand name and intellectual property that is unmatched in the entertainment industry. The Disney+ library will include 18 of the 21 Pixar movies, most of the Marvel movie library, 30 seasons of The Simpsons, a selection of Disney movies, and more. This alone is enough to attract a mass audience. But Disney will connect and additional series of Marvel and Star Wars.
It seems that the service simply has no weak points. The only thing that can prevent mass consumers from connecting to it is very strong competition in the streaming TV market.
Instead of a conclusion
Naturally, neither Netflix, neither HBO is going to give up ground in the "streaming wars" so easily. Companies continue to spend billions on content, both commissioned and licensed. And this means that consumers will clearly not lack services and content. We are entering an era when viewers are not threatened by a lack of content, but rather the risk of literally “drowning” in the diversity presented.
