Apple has announced plans to launch a new emoji collection for iPhone in fall 2019.
The release of the new series will be timed to coincide with the celebration of World Emoji Day. The Smartphone Keyboard Collection showcases the latest emoji designs as well as additions to popular categories like food & drink, animals, activities, and more.
The main update is waiting for the famous emoji “Holding hands”. Now iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch users will be able to choose any combination of skin tone and gender for personalization - a total of 75 options for people holding hands that symbolize relationships will be available.
Apple will also add a range of new emoji to the keyboard for people with disabilities, including a new guide dog, an ear with a hearing aid, as well as wheelchairs, a prosthetic arm and a prosthetic leg. “Celebrating diversity in all its many forms is an integral part of Apple’s values, and these new options help fill a significant gap in the emoji keyboard,” the company says.
Apple's many emoji categories are also getting exciting updates, such as the yawn emoji, swimsuit together, new food items including waffle, falafel, butter and garlic, and new animals like the sloth, flamingo, orangutan, and skunk.
59 new emoji designs based on approved characters in Unicode 12.0 will be available with a free software update for Apple products this autumn. There are currently thousands of emojis available for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, including expressions of emotions, professions, clothing options, animals, mythical creatures, and more.
