The well-known brand of Doritos corn chips will now officially become available to Russian consumers.
The intention to gain a foothold in the Russian market became known from the official press release of the company. Previously, Doritos chips have already been found in some stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, they were sold exclusively as part of a brand launch test that started back in 2014. Now we are talking about a full launch. So far, only in the Lenta chain of stores owned by Lenta Ltd. from St. Petersburg.
It is expected that the launch of Doritos will take place in the best traditions of the manufacturer, known for its unexpected and bold advertising campaigns. It was decided that the event would be celebrated in the parking lot of the Lenta hypermarket in St. Petersburg. Visitors to the event will not only be able to listen to music and take pictures against the backdrop of all kinds of scenery, but also take part in various shows.
The history of Doritos chips, distinguished by their characteristic triangular shape, began in 1964. According to legend, they appeared thanks to the resourcefulness of the owner of the Casa de Fritos restaurant in California, who got rid of excess products in this way. It so happened that the restaurant was visited by the vice president of marketing from Frito-Lay (since 1965 owned by PepsiCo), who liked the new snack so much that he immediately entered into an agreement to begin mass production of it. Initially, Doritos were available only to residents of California, but starting in 1966, they began to be sold throughout the country. And in 1967, versions with various flavors also appeared on sale. By 1993, Doritos was selling over a billion dollars.
