One of the largest and oldest tobacco manufacturers in Russia. The company is part of a diversified holding "AGROCOM GROUP".
The history of the enterprise began in the distant 1857, when a certain Vasily Ivanovich Asmolov founded a small factory for the production of smoking tobacco in Rostov. Only seven people worked at that time.
After some time, Asmolov invites the enterprising merchant Gabriel Shushpanov as a partner. Together they were able to significantly expand production. Within a few years, the volume of production increased tenfold. In 1871 the company was named "Trading House V. I. Asmolov and Co".
The enterprise is growing steadily, expanding sales markets and the range of products - by the beginning of the 20th century, the amount of tobacco produced is measured in tons, and cigarettes - in billions of pieces. The process of absorption of other small producers begins.
After the October Revolution, the enterprise was nationalized and renamed Don State Tobacco Factory (DGTF). And although it was difficult at first, over time the factory firmly stood on its feet, continuing to increase production volumes and increase production volumes. It was not easy for the DGTF during the war years - Rostov was occupied and evacuation was required. However, by the end of 1943, after the liberation of the city, the production of cigarettes and cigarettes began again.
DGTF produces such well-known brands of cigarettes as "Space" и "20th century" (now "21 century"), "Rostov", "Don tobacco" and many others.
In 1992, after the collapse of the USSR, the enterprise was restructured into OJSC Donskoy Tabak. Since 2004, it has become part of the AGROCOM GROUP holding.
Today, the area occupied by the enterprise occupies tens of square kilometers. And nothing reminds of Asmolov's tiny factory.
