Company eBay, the owner of a world-famous online auction, acquires a mobile payment service - Zong. The deal will amount to 240 million dollars. The transaction is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2011, after approval by all authorities.
eBay plans to combine the new service with its payment system PayPal, now users will be able to pay for goods and services using mobile phones and communicators. Main advantage Zong that thanks to cooperation with the most popular mobile operators, the company simply “links” payments to bills for using mobile communications, payment is made from a specific number, the user does not need to take any additional actions. Zong is already used to pay for goods and services in 45 countries around the world, mainly using the service to pay for purchases in social networks and online games.
The acquisition will allow eBay significantly increase the number and amount of payments through the system PayPal, develop new lines of business to attract new users.
