Japanese manufacturer of optical products. Contact lenses, lenses for glasses of any level of complexity, optics for scientific and medical devices, laser equipment, light filters are produced. For some time now, the list of products has been replenished with digital cameras of various levels, manufactured under the brand PENTAX (this once independent company, since October 1, 2007, is part of Hoya).
The history of the company began in 1941, when two brothers Soichi and Shigeru Yamanaka (Shoichi and Shigeru Yamanaka) opened a small optical factory in Hoya, a suburb of Tokyo, Japan (Hoya, Tokio, Japan). As you can see, the new company got its name in honor of the area where it was located. The products were in demand - only four years later, the company's annual turnover was already in the millions of yen.
In 1945 Hoya expands the range of products, which now includes crystal tableware. What in those years was rather a forced measure of the post-war period, eventually became commonplace - crystal tableware was actively produced until 2009, when its production was reduced.

The further development of the company is the history of the relentless expansion of production and the range of products. Since 1984, the name has changed to Hoya Corporation; a new headquarters building was built. Since August 1996, cooperation with IBM began - Hoya began to produce hard disk platters. This production is still operating, although the Blue Giant exited the HDD business by selling it Hitachi.
In 1989, European (HOYA Europe BV, now HOYA Holdings NV) and American (HOYA Corporation USA) divisions. To date, Hoya - a corporation with a complex structure, consisting of many internal companies (about a hundred), engaged in a wide variety of activities. Since 2007, it has included such a well-known and respected company as PENTAX.
In offices and factories Hoya Corporation employing tens of thousands of people. At the same time, annual revenues have already exceeded hundreds of billions of yen.
