In the Russian market, the demand for game consoles of the 1980s and early 1990s - PlayStation, Sega and Nintendo - increased dramatically.
The volume of the Russian market of game consoles in 2018 exceeded the figures of 2017 by 26% and amounted to about 640 thousand units, which is equivalent to 12.5 billion rubles. The greatest demand was noted for new versions of consoles that became popular 30-40 years ago. According to the retailer's data, about 100,000 PlayStation Classic, Sega Mega Drive Gopher, Nintendo Classic Mini NES and SNES consoles were sold in Russia last year.
Despite a slight increase in demand, the Nintendo Classic Mini SNES held its own in first place, becoming the best among retro consoles. Sales of her predecessor Nintendo Classic Mini almost tripled, and sales of the Sega Mega Drive Gopher portable set-top boxes quadrupled.
The PlayStation 4 console became the most popular in the game console market - it accounted for 60% of all sales in the segment. Second in terms of the number of consoles sold, like a year ago, became Xbox One. The third position in the ranking of the most popular consoles was taken by the Nintendo Switch, which almost doubled its sales.
According to Oleg Reznikov, head of the Entertainment and Photo/Video department at M.Video-Eldorado, sales of game consoles have grown largely due to the nostalgia of solvent buyers and the low price of these devices. Earlier it was reported that the cost of the PlayStation Classic console with twenty pre-installed games in retail networks has once again decreased and amounted to 2990 rubles at the initial entry into the Russian market at a price of 8490 rubles.
