IKEA presented a special collection "Scandinavian design in modern Africa".
The Overallt line was created in collaboration with ten African designers from five countries, based on the study of African traditions and the way of life of the peoples of the continent. A collaboration with local designers has enabled IKEA to create a limited collection of home furnishings and accessories that will be available in stores worldwide for a limited time.
Ultimately, Overallt's global collection included 33 pieces of furniture and decor, aimed primarily at expanding the space for relaxing in living spaces and meeting with friends and loved ones. The entire collection, from furniture to tableware, textiles and a new version of the famous IKEA bag, is made from sustainable materials to become available to customers in all regions of the brand's presence.
“We have been watching what is happening in Africa, in music and fashion, for a long time, but we do not notice much, all the wonderful things that are happening in architecture and product design,” Markus Engman, head of design, commented on the idea of creating a unique collection. IKEA.
“What is particularly interesting in this study of urban traditions and lifestyles is the fact that African cities are currently being transformed. And the consumer habits that we are used to are moving in a different direction,” said Issa Diabate, an architect from Côte d'Ivoire.
As part of their work on the special collection for IKEA, the designers especially noted the new look at African urban traditions in light of technological advances that have a huge impact on our lives. Items from the new Overallt collection will be available in Russia and other markets from May 19th.
