The Swedish company IKEA has introduced a computer font of its own design, called Soffa Sans.
It all started with the company's online service called Design your own sofa, which allows users to create their own sofa model that fits their needs. A feature of this service is that it has practically no restrictions and allows you to create upholstered furniture of almost any configuration. This prompted the developers to come up with the idea of creating an original font, the letters in which seem to be assembled from parts of IKEA sofas of various series. Two font options are available - just sofas "on top" and sofas in an isometric view. Available in white, blue and grey.
The unusual typeface is called Soffa Sans, a play on the name of the popular Sans Serif font family. It is not suitable for typing large texts, but for creating original design postcards or posters it is quite. The digital agency Proximity London took part in the creation of the typeface.
The developers called Soffa Sans "the most comfortable font in the world", hinting that it was created using pieces of upholstered furniture. It should be noted that in this way the original IKEA advertisement, simple, but at the same time interesting and unobtrusive.
The new font is distributed completely free of charge and is already available for download. The Drum journalists were not too lazy to calculate that if you want to purchase all the sofas that are included in Soffa Sans and reproduce it live, you will need to pay about $134,500.
