Inspired by Scandinavian nature and sauna culture.
IKEA announced the release of a joint collection with Finnish design brand Marimekko. The line includes 26 pieces and draws inspiration from Scandinavian nature and sauna culture.
The collection, called Bastua, features limited-edition pieces ranging from furniture to small household items and décor.
In the history of Marimekko, founded in 1951, this is the first collaboration with an outside brand. "Marimekko's Finnish roots and its connection to the historical origins of sauna culture have been a fundamental part of the design journey and creation of the Bastua prints," commented the company's creative director Rebecca Bey.
The collection is well-traced to Scandinavian countries' landscapes and local culture's silhouettes. According to IKEA designer Mikael Axelsson, it's about clean lines and simple designs with a focus on functionality.
Some of the items in the Bastua line are designed for use in saunas, such as robes and towels with bright patterns, as well as a traditional bucket and bench to complement the ritual.
The Bastua collection will go on sale in IKEA stores and online beginning March 1, 2023. Retail prices for items from the IKEA x Marimekko collection will range from $3 for a bag to $84 for a bench.
