The company is forcing workers to return to their offices, in case of refusal they are waiting for wage cuts and layoffs.
G-III Apparel Group, an American company that manages a portfolio of recognizable licensed clothing brands such as Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Levi Strauss & Co, DKNY and others, became the subject of public discussion. G-III workers said that despite the existing threat of coronavirus infection, management requires them to return to the company's New York offices for a full-time job.
At the same time, it is known that since June, five people who visited the company’s office or worked in it have officially confirmed a positive test result for COVID-19. Of course, employees are afraid to return to the conditions of office interaction in such a situation and assess the morale of employees as very low.
The company requires all employees, including sales, design, merchandising and marketing, legal and technical staff, to be in the office three days a week and strongly recommends five days a week. At the same time, three days missed in a row without explanation are equated, according to the company's rules, with filing a letter of resignation. Also, those employees who are not present at the workplace five days a week will experience pay cuts.
Most large employers still prefer not to go down the path of intimidating employees, exposing them to the risk of infection. Companies such as Shopify, Walmart and Google are pursuing a policy of shifting office workers to the “remote” as much as possible, while the terms of this mode of work are periodically extended.
