Apple 5th Avenue in New York reopens to visitors after a major renovation.
The unique store was opened in 2006. Its huge glass cube entrance (originally built from 90 pieces of glass, which was replaced with 15 large panels in 2011) has already gone down in architectural history as an example of great design, as has the glass staircase leading to the lower retail space. But two years ago, the store was closed, it was reported that as a result of the repair, it will receive not only an updated design, but also a significantly increased size. Apple worked with architecture firm Foster + Partners on the update.
The outer part remained practically unchanged, the glass cube, iconic for New York, remained recognizable. But there are more surprises waiting for guests inside. The new store, as promised by Apple, has almost doubled in area. And this means not only more opportunities for design, but also increased throughput of the store at times. The maximum possible number of products from both the company itself and third-party manufacturers that produce accessories for Apple products will be placed here.
The Genius Bar section, intended for consultations and communication with technical support specialists, has doubled in size. Here it is called Genius Grove, has green walls and two rows of trees inside.
The retail space now has higher ceilings and is better lit thanks to a large number of spotlights. The glass staircase, the hallmark of the store, has now been replaced by a stainless steel spiral staircase with a glass side that immediately grabs the attention of every visitor with its unusual design.
The store has space for various events, plus two Boardrooms at once, in which Apple specialists will meet with business clients, designers and artists, and private meetings will be held.
The space around has also changed. The area in front of the entrance is now equipped with 62 luminous circles. Some of them are raised, which gives additional seating, and forms a ring of some kind of large lanterns around the glass cube, at night this lighting solution looks especially impressive.
After the Apple update, 5th Avenue became the largest Apple store in the world. You can visit the store at any time, it works seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
