The denim brand's first collaboration with the Japanese tennis star included four pieces, including a kimono and bustier.
American denim manufacturer Levi Strauss & Co has teamed up with Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka for a recycled collection featuring four pieces including a kimono and bustier.
The first Levi's x Naomi Osaka collection is a limited edition, with each piece crafted from Levi's vintage recycled denim. Osaka worked with the brand's design team to create the collection, incorporating her own style based on a mixture of femininity and sport. Japanese culture is also reflected here - a denim kimono and an obi belt.
“I always loved wearing kimonos when I was a kid. So the opportunity to do it in denim seemed very unusual and a little unexpected to me,” commented Osaka.

The collection also includes denim shorts in two variations and a bustier made from denim jackets, which the designers have given the shape of a traditional corset with lacing at the back.
“I liked the bustier idea when I was sketching. But now that she's come to life, I like her even more,” added Osaka.
Made entirely from recycled and reused materials, the collection is more sustainable, reflecting the values of the tennis player who declared her desire to be “just human, not superhuman.”
WWD writes that Levi's describes Osaka as a "true ambassador for social change" and "a powerful young voice in the world of sports whose authenticity and willingness to stand up for important causes inspire millions."
