The first retail outlets in the new format are opening in the Krasnodar Territory.
The second largest Russian grocery retailer Magnit is testing new formats and announces the launch of a project to create stores in partnership with the Tatneft gas station network.
In partnership with Tatneft, Magnit opens compact stores at gas stations ranging from 50 to 150 square meters with an assortment of the most necessary goods on the road. About 900 trade names are presented in the stores - these are coffee and other drinks, as well as confectionery and an expanded range of non-food articles. In the near future, the stores of the new format will have their own fresh pastries. Depending on demand, new positions will appear in the range of stores.
The first two stores under the Magnit brand at gas stations are located on the M4 Don federal highway when driving towards the Black Sea. Partners estimate that about 25% gas station customers make purchases in stores.
Thanks to the partnership with Tatneft, the grocery retailer is expanding sales channels and expects to cover territories where opening full-scale stores is impractical. The efficiency of the format is expected to benefit from the absence of rental payments and staff costs.
During testing of the project until the end of July 2019, Magnit and Tatneft expect to open two more stores in the Krasnodar Territory, as well as three outlets in the Moscow Region. Based on the data on the work of the project, a decision will be made on its further development.
