Fans of the South Korean pop sensation will be able to sample their idols' favorite dish at McDonald's starting May 26.
McDonald's announced a collaboration with another celebrity as part of the Famous Orders campaign. Previously, visitors could find favorite dishes of rapper Travis Scott and singer J Balvin on the menu. But this time, as many as seven celebrities are members of the mega-popular South Korean pop group BTS all over the world.
An unusual move for a restaurant chain was not only to increase the number of celebrities, even if they are part of the same group, but also to increase the number of markets. The new promotion will be the first in the Famous Orders program to be rolled out to more than one market. Previously, celebrity deals were only available to US buyers.
The group's signature order includes Chicken McNuggets (10 or 9 pieces depending on country), a medium pack of World Famous Fries, a medium drink, and two Sweet Chili and Cajun sauces inspired by recipes used in the chain's South Korean restaurants.
Fans of Korean pop music will be able to find offers from the band members in restaurant menus starting May 26. The US will be the first market for the menu innovation, and the program will be rolled out to 50 markets around the world during June.
The company expects a sharp surge in sales of stock-promoted chicken nuggets. Given the previous success of the program, when Travis Scott's favorite burgers Quarter Pounders were literally swept away by restaurant patrons and some of the chain's establishments even experienced a shortage of them, as well as the exorbitant popularity of K-pop around the world, McDonald's can look forward to even more impressive results.
