Mars Corporation has announced that iconic M&Ms characters will be redesigned to appeal to a more progressive and dynamic audience. Character designs will become more modern and inclusive.
“We at Mars believe that the world we want to see tomorrow will have an inclusive society. And as one of our most iconic brands, M&M'S is announcing a new global commitment to creating a world where everyone feels at home.
Mars noted that the M&M'S brand, which has been on the market for more than 80 years, continues to develop. The revamped branding will include a more modern take on the characters' looks, as well as highlighting their personalities with a contemporary style.
In particular, it is reported that the green heroine of the brand will change her white heeled boots for "cool, laid-back sneakers that reflect her self-confidence." In addition, the green and brown characters will begin to form a more friendly relationship, the red character will give up his hooligan tendencies and become kinder, and the orange character will embrace his true self as a sign of solidarity with the more “anxious” Generation Z.
The changes will also affect the arms and legs of M&M's characters. If before they were a pronounced flesh color, then in a new reading, designers will paint them in more neutral, close to white colors.
As part of the new branding strategy, Mars will begin to use images of different shapes and sizes, as well as eliminate the use of gender prefixes in relation to its characters.
