Fast food chain McDonald's will now charge extra for toys that are included in children's meals Happy Meals. This is the company's reaction to accusations of manipulating children through free toys.
Opponents of fast food chains have repeatedly accused McDonald's that the company encourages children to consume food that is very unhealthy for their health, and this leads to obesity. Particularly drastic measures were taken in California, where they generally banned the use of free toys in cases where the food is regarded as harmful.
It's just not clear how toys will help solve the problem, the cost of which will now be as much as 10 cents. But the law is respected - free toys in lunches Happy Meals no longer.
McDonald's declares that all the money received will go to charity.
