The model based on the GLE class, equipped with a plug-in hybrid system, has been developed by Mercedes-Benz engineers for two years.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new experimental car, named "the safest" in the world, thanks to the use of new technologies and major achievements in the field of safe driving. In June 2019, the new car is to be judged by experts at a conference in Eindhoven, and will be officially presented at the Frankfurt auto show in autumn.
The 2019 Mercedes ESF from the Experimental Safe Cars series received new digital panels in place of the grille and rear window. With the help of the display, the driver and passengers will be able to observe everything that happens on the roads. The rear window of the car will display what is in front of the car in the driver's field of view. For vehicles in the rear, graphic or text messages about the traffic situation will be broadcast on the rear window.
«Безопасность по-прежнему является нашей основной ценностью бренда. Большим преимуществом автоматизации функций вождения является то, что в будущем меньше ошибок будет вызвано ошибкой водителя», — прокомментировал руководитель Mercedes-Benz Cars Security Center Rodolfo Schöneburg.
During the operation of the autopilot, the steering wheel and pedals of the car are retracted into the front panel to reduce injury in the event of an accident. Seat belts are supplied with the electric drive. The car is equipped with an airbag that deploys from the side bolsters of the seat to protect the passenger from impact from both sides. For passengers traveling in the rear seats, there are heated seat belts and a new cylinder-section airbag that forms a tent-like frame.
The car is equipped with the Pre-Safe Curve safety system, which adds Curve, Impulse Rear and Side lighting functions to warn the driver of speeding and dangerous turns. In the event of a breakdown, an emergency sign will appear on the roof, and with the help of a small robot, an emergency triangle will be installed behind the car, Daimler notes. Also in the new experimental car, the 360-degree Pedestrian Protection function is implemented, which warns pedestrians about possible threats on the roads.
