The brand will become part of the history of the sport by supporting teams from several countries in the first appearance of skateboarding as part of the Olympic sports.
The Summer Olympics in Tokyo will become a landmark for fans of such a sport as skateboarding, because skateboarders will take part in it for the first time. For competitions in skateboarding, a modern skate park was even specially built. And the creation of uniforms for athletes from several countries will be done by Nike, which designed clothes and shoes for skateboarders from USA, Japan, France and Brazil.
Uniforms for teams are created taking into account the characteristics of each country, they are unique and at the same time maintain a single style. For each federation the designers Nike created shorts, tracksuits, socks, as well as five variants of T-shirts and five different types of hats. Some of the jerseys, with and without sleeves, are decorated with bright graphic patterns that reflect the landscape of a particular country, for example, the hills surrounding Rio de Janeiro on the form of Brazil or the Eiffel Tower on the jerseys of the French team. Also, for each team, a bird symbol was chosen, reminiscent of the fact that skateboarders “fly” on their skateboards, taking off from the ground. The birds of the countries are the crane for Japan, the eagle for the United States, the rooster for France, and the toucan for Brazil.
At the same time, in order to preserve the free spirit of this sport, teams can vary their form in one way or another, creating a unique individual style for each athlete. For example, a skateboarder may choose from a catalog of items with bright prints, or may prefer plain clothes, but pick up bright socks and a hat. The designers kept the street rebellious style of skateboarding, but at the same time made the clothes unified.
This has become one of the important tasks for designers, because they faced the issue of creating a unified style in the sport, which is built on the idea of rebellion, self-expression and opposition to society. Whether they succeeded in doing this, the audience will find out very soon - the Summer Olympic Games 2020 (the name is saved for marketing reasons) will begin on July 23, 2021.
