American manufacturer of sports shoes and clothing, Nike announces its intention to sell two brands Umbro и Cole Haan. The main goal of the sale is to reduce costs and the intention to focus on their own brand.
The eponymous brand of the company, as well as brands FlyKnit, Nike+, Jordan, Hurley и Converse regarded as more promising and loved by consumers. Against the backdrop of rising prices for raw materials, packaging and additional materials, even market leaders such as Nike are forced to reconsider their strategy and, if possible, get rid of less important areas.
The names of possible buyers are not yet known, but the sale is planned to be completed by the end of May 2013. The 1988 purchase of Cole Haan, a clothing and footwear brand, cost Nike US$95 million. And Umbro, a soccer equipment brand, was worth US$582 million when it was bought in 2008.
