Sports giant Nike has announced the launch of the .Swoosh platform, which will be the epicenter of all the brand's digital initiatives. The new platform marks Nike's next move into Web3 to create a community for virtual clothing and digital content.
.Swoosh will be both a Web3 educational resource and a platform for virtual sneaker and t-shirt sales. Digital items purchased through the platform can be used in video games and metaverse worlds.
Users of the new platform will also be able to create their own digital clothing collections on .Swoosh and receive royalties from the sale of exclusive content.
“We are shaping the market of the future with an accessible platform for curious Web3 users. In this new space, the .Swoosh community and Nike can create, share and benefit together,” said Ron Faris, CEO of Nike Virtual Studios.
In 2019, Nike filed for a patent for a Web3 sneaker called the Cryptokicks. And in the recent past, a deal was closed to take over digital fashion startup RTFKT Studios. In addition, the company introduced a collection of sneakers for the RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks metaverse.
