Appeared Noctua (pronounced "noctoy" and sometimes "nocta") in 2005, as a result of a collaboration between the Austrian Austrian Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.mbH and Taiwanese Kolink International Corporation (both companies were originally engaged in cooling systems). It was possible to achieve such a high level of products of the young company thanks to cooperation with Osterreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik (ÖIWV, Austrian Institute for Heat Transfer and Fan Technology).

Thus, Noctua is not a company in the usual sense. It is rather a production “triple alliance”, where an Austrian company is responsible for marketing, a Taiwanese company is responsible for production, and a whole separate institute is responsible for research.
The company got its name in honor of Athene Noctua - a small Athenian owl (also called a house owl), a symbol of Athena - the goddess of wisdom, science (and war). Pretty symbolic.
Cooling systems Noctua are produced using specially developed and proprietary technologies, which allow achieving such high performance. Although it is impossible to call this product extremely popular - people who use computer systems that are prone to excessive heating know about it (gamers, overclocking enthusiasts, owners of self-assembled HTPCs).
The company's headquarters is located in Vienna, Austria (Vienna, Republic of Austria).
