Dyson's latest air purifier can capture and destroy formaldehyde in your home's air.
The company presented the Pure Cool Cryptomic and Pure Hot+Cool Cryptomic models. The first is able to work as a fan, while the second also has the function of heating the air. At the same time, both of them have the ability to continuously destroy formaldehyde contained in the air.
Formaldehyde is present almost everywhere. This colorless and odorless substance is emitted by furniture, mattresses, electronics. It appears when using air fresheners and disinfectants, smoking and cooking on gas stoves. Inhalation of formaldehyde can irritate the mucous membranes, aggravate existing allergies, and even lead to cancer.
It is impossible to completely get rid of formaldehyde in the air. However, it is possible to reduce its amount to a safe minimum, which is what Dyson Cryptomic devices do. These are not the first company solutions capable of combating formaldehyde. However, if previous models only captured the substance, then the novelty also decomposes it into safe components - CO2 and water.
Dyson says they have spent a lot of time finding a way to get rid of formaldehyde quickly, efficiently and safely. More than 20 different catalysts have been tested - substances that would allow a chemical reaction to proceed without being consumed. In the end, they settled on the mineral cryptomelane, the name of which became the basis for the name of the fans.
The devices are also equipped with HEPA filters to trap bacteria, pollen and mold spores, as well as a carbon filter to eliminate unpleasant odors and various harmful gases. These filters will have to be changed periodically, while the formaldehyde filter will last almost forever.
Fans can be controlled using the remote control, as well as through a mobile application (in which you can get statistics on the operation of the device), as well as through the Alexa voice assistant. The entry-level Dyson Cryptomic is priced at $650, while the heated solution costs $750. Several color options are available for sale.
