Apple will hold its first own awarding of the best musicians - Apple Music Awards.
The company will celebrate the most interesting names in the world of music for 2019, while it is planned to make this event an annual event in the future. There will be five nominations in total. The selection of winners was carried out taking into account the opinion of the editorial board of Apple Music based on the preferences of users of the service.
Winners will be announced for the Global Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Breakthrough Artist categories, selected by the Apple Music editorial team, which included representatives from all over the world. And the Album of the Year and Song of the Year winners were chosen based on the number of times Apple Music users played.
As she herself claims Apple, the musicians who won first place in the categories are not only the most popular names, but rather those groups and performers who have caused profound cultural changes and influenced social processes with their creativity.
Billie Eilish won the Global Artist of the Year category. To commemorate the first Apple Music Awards, she will host a live concert at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park on December 4, which will be streamed live on the company's website.
Billie Eilish also won awards in two other categories. Her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? became the most listened to in 2019. Also, the singer and her brother Finneas O'Connell will share the award for the best songwriting of the year.
In the category "Breakthrough of the Year" the winner was the singer Lizzo. And Lil Nas X's Old Town Road was chosen as the song of the year for 2019 - the most streamed single on Apple Music.
Apple's rewards will be quite unusual. The basis will be silicon wafers, which are attached between a layer of glass and an anodized aluminum body. This is a real work of art, expressing the connection of the company with the world of music.
