The Marriott hotel chain has decided to abandon disposable cosmetics in the rooms. This step will help reduce environmental pollution.
Every day, hotels around the world throw away a huge amount of plastic packaging from under cosmetics, often not even fully used. Such a volume of plastic containers in waste significantly pollutes the environment. And Marriott, one of the world's largest hotel chains, decided to join the movement to protect nature.
It was announced that disposable cosmetics, including shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, etc., will disappear from all rooms of the hotel chain. Instead of small bottles, large reusable bottles will now be placed in hotel bathrooms.
Considering the scale of the hotel chain, such a move would significantly reduce the use of plastic. In addition, the cost of maintaining rooms will also be reduced. And an additional bonus for the network will be the loyalty of the guests. After all, modern customers expect social consciousness from a brand and will appreciate such an initiative.
According to Marriott representatives, in this way it will be possible to stop about 500 million plastic bottles a year from entering landfills, which is about 770 tons of plastic.
The first steps towards getting rid of plastic packaging were taken by Marriott back in 2018. Back then, small bottles were replaced with large dispensers at several of the chain's most prestigious properties, namely the Courtyard by Marriott, SpringHill Suites, Residence Inn, Fairfield by Marriott and TownePlace Suites. To date, bottles have already disappeared from the rooms of about 1,000 hotels in North America. It is planned that the entire network will be covered by the innovation by December 2020.
