One of the main distinguishing features of the iPhone SE 2020 was its price, which even at the start did not exceed $400 without a contract.
Naturally, the question arose as to how Apple, whose technique has always been distinguished by a high price tag, managed to create such an affordable device. The answer is that the company has made some compromises that potential buyers need to be aware of. The fact is that the iPhone SE 2020 consists of both the latest and already quite outdated components.
Screen from 2014
The smartphone is equipped with a screen that, in almost all technical characteristics, is the same as the iPhone 6, which was introduced in 2014. It has a diagonal of 4.7 inches and a resolution of 750 by 1334 pixels. True, the brightness level here is 650 nits, compared to 500 nits for the "six". But in general, the screens are very similar.
The bezel is always one of the most expensive parts of a phone. By using a relatively small and simple model, Apple can reduce the cost of production.
Camera from 2016
Cameras, front and rear, the novelty have similar characteristics with the iPhone 7. For most users, this is more than enough. Well, since the cost of these components can be very high, the company saves a lot by using time-tested solutions, the supply of which has long been worked out.
Case from 2017
From the outside, the new iPhone SE is almost identical to the iPhone 8, released in 2017. They have the same size, shape and weight, down to a gram. Again, the company does not need to globally change product lines.
Some users hoped that Apple would introduce something similar to the iPhone 5. However, this would mean significant development and production restructuring costs. The goal of the company was clearly to create an inexpensive solution.
And here is the processor from 2019
An important feature of the new iPhone is the Apple A13 processor. This is the same chip used in the iPhone 11 Pro. So the budget model will have performance comparable to that of the flagship model.
Interestingly, this is also a cost savings - the company is creating a device that will be relevant for a couple of years. So don't wait for an update to the SE lineup in 2021. Most likely, updates to the current model should be expected no earlier than 2022.
In the dry matter
Apple managed to create a balanced solution at a more than affordable cost. As the world is facing a major crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, we can safely assume that the iPhone SE 2020 will become a real bestseller. It will be readily purchased by people around the world who do not need a fancy solution with a large screen, but who want to take full advantage of the Apple ecosystem.
