Consumer Reports' top picks also included Genesis, Subaru, Mazda and Lexus.
German manufacturer Porsche topped the ranking of the most reliable cars in the world according to the annual Consumer Reports report. On the second line is the South Korean Genesis, a premium sub-brand of Hyundai Motor Company. The top three at the end of the year is closed by last year's winner of the rating Subaru.
The top 10 most reliable car brands also included Mazda, Lexus, Audi, Hyundai, bmw, Kia and Mini. The most unreliable, as in the past year, were British Land Rover and Jaguar, American Cadillac and Jeep, as well as Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi and GMC. The authors of the study recommended only one of the 36 cars of these brands that took part in the test - the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The outsider of the rating, like a year ago, was the Italian Fiat.

Over the past twelve months, Tesla has greatly strengthened its position in the reliability rating. Thanks to improved reliability of the Model 3 and Model S sedans, the brand has risen from 19th to 11th place and became the best among American manufacturers in the rankings. The worst dynamics for the year was demonstrated by the Japanese brand Acura, which lost 8 positions due to problems with the MDX and RDX crossovers. The second most reliable American brand Lincoln, which took 13th place, dropped five places in the ranking. Buick was the top brand of General Motors this year, rising to 19th place.
“The top brands on our list are doing a great job of producing vehicles that perform well in our road tests and are reliable, safe and satisfying to customers,” said Jake Fisher of Consumer Reports. He specifically commended Subaru, Mazda, Hyundai and Kia for reliability in the area, which traditionally offer "many models at affordable prices."
Consumer Reports also compiled a Best performers ranking of cars in the top ten groups. For the third year in a row, Toyota was named the most efficient brand, with four models at once – Corolla, Prius, Avalon and Supra – making it to the top.
In the category up to $25,000, Toyota Corolla was named the best car of the year, up to $35,000 - Subaru Forester, Subaru Legasy and Toyota Prius, up to $45,000 - Toyota Avalon, Kia Telluride and Honda Ridgeline. In the category up to $55,000, the authors of the study awarded the Lexus RX as the best compact SUV, the Toyota Supra (best sports car) and the Tesla Model 3 (best electric car).
