Irish retailer operating in the so-called. "fast fashion" (fast fashion), when the change of assortment can occur several times per season. Primark stores are quite widespread in Western Europe. Since 2015, the brand has also entered the US market. Now there is a gradual development of the Eastern European market. At the end of 2018, there were approximately 350 Primark stores in 11 countries. The largest of them (14,400 square meters) is located in Manchester, UK.
At home, in Ireland, the retailer's stores are called Penneys. At the same time, they have a similar assortment and the same design. And the logos are so similar that at a cursory glance they can be confused.
The history of the brand began on June 13, 1969, when Arthur Ryan opened the first Penneys clothing store in Dublin, Ireland. The enterprise turned out to be successful, stores began to appear in other cities of the country. In 1973, the first store outside of Ireland opened in Derby, UK. When entering a new market, the founder of the company had to solve one problem. As it turned out, the name Penneys had already been registered, so we had to come up with a new one. This is how the name Primark appeared.
Today, Primark stores sell the widest range of products. These are clothes for men, women and children of all ages, household items, accessories, shoes, beauty products and confectionery. A significant part of the goods sold are produced under the brands owned by the retailer itself - Opia, YD, no secret, Ceder WoodState and others. These are all very high quality products at an attractive price. As a result, Primark's turnover is very high - as The Economist noted, this retailer has created "a new, faster kind of fast fashion."
