The Sonos Roam will be available April 20th for $169, but anyone can pre-order today.
Previously presented model Sonos Move was the company's first attempt at a portable product, but the speaker turned out to be quite large and not very suitable for travel. But Roam is a really compact solution that you can take with you anywhere. At the same time, it is the smallest device Sonos has ever made.
Roam is waterproof and can be used in the bathroom or in the rain. It measures 168x62x60 mm and weighs 430 grams. According to the manufacturer, they tested hundreds of different prototypes, differing in size and shape, before deciding to settle on this model. It is also claimed that the compactness did not affect the quality of playback in any way, and the column provides a decent sound, characteristic of all Sonos creations. But it will be possible to find out the latter only at the end of April, when the first reviews of the device appear on the Web.
In the best traditions of the manufacturer, the device is equipped with various additional features. For example, Auto Trueplay technology means that Roam will use the built-in microphones to ensure the best possible sound. This can be useful, for example, in rooms where echo is present.
Two Roam speakers can be set up as a stereo pair via Wi-Fi, but unfortunately this option is not available when playing music via Bluetooth. But on the other hand, the device is able to independently determine which of the connections is optimal at the moment. So, when listening at home, Roam will use Wi-Fi, but as soon as you take it and leave the wireless network coverage area, the speaker will automatically connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth to continue playing. Apple AirPlay 2 is also supported.
Another interesting feature is called Sound Swap. Just hold down the play/pause button for three seconds and Roam will stream your music to any other Sonos speaker in the vicinity. famous ecosystem companies in action.
From one battery charge Roam can work up to 10 hours in playback mode and up to 10 days in standby mode. There is support for wireless charging, and you can either purchase a special accessory from Sonos itself, or use any third-party solution. Sonos Roam will be available to consumers in two color options - black and white.
