In a bid to expand the war with Apple in yet another market, South Korean company Samsung has acquired Boxee, an Israeli developer of set-top boxes that are considered worthy competitors to popular solutions like the Apple TV.
The exact amount of the transaction was not disclosed, but some resources claim that we are talking about 30 million US dollars. It is also unknown what exactly attracted the South Korean giant, hardware or software created for Boxee TV (it is believed that these devices are in no way inferior to Apple TV in terms of simplicity and ease of control). In any case, the entire Israeli team comes under the control of Samsung.
It is also not reported and nothing about how Samsung will continue to use the findings. Will the development of the media set-top box continue, or will it simply expand the capabilities of its Smart TVs.
