When creating the Space Collection, Swiss watchmakers were inspired by space motifs.
People who are interested in the topic of space exploration will certainly highly appreciate the Space Collection watches, which are created by the company swatch actively involved the style of NASA. A total of 5 models were presented, adorned with the iconic logo of the Aerospace Agency and inspired by the outfit of space shuttle crew members. That is, the new watch is something like an ode to the heyday of NASA space travel.
The top model of the collection is the Extravehicular, a 47mm "Big Bold" chronograph inspired by the white EMU spacesuit used during spacewalks. It was first used in 1983 by NASA astronauts Story Musgrave and Don Peterson. And the bright orange Launch is named after the Advanced Crew Escape Suit that astronauts used on launches and landings from 1988 to 2011.
Both of these models are equipped with additional dials, the design of which is reminiscent of the Omega Speedmaster watch. used in the moon landings. Another distinctive feature is the red stripe in the last 10 seconds - a hint of a countdown before the start.
The third Jumpsuit model is simpler. It is devoid of an additional dial and is made in the blue color of the suits that astronauts wear during training and press conferences. The remaining Race and Take Me to the Moon New Gent feature classic Swatch designs and are the most affordable in the new collection. The first model got its name in honor of the space race between the US and the USSR, and the second - in honor of Frank Sinatra's song "Fly Me to the Moon", which was among the compositions delivered to the moon by the first Apollo 11 crew.
According to Swatch itself, the company is taking “a giant leap with a new space-inspired collection,” a reference to astronaut Neil Armstrong’s famous words when he stepped onto the lunar surface.
As for the materials, when creating the "space" watches Swatch used an innovative material - bioceramics. Being a mix of ceramics and bioplastics, it is durable and at the same time very pleasant to the touch. For the first time, this material was used by the brand in the spring of this year, when creating the Big Bold animalistic collection.
It remains only to add that the Space Collection is already available for sale in branded stores and in the company's online store. The cost of watches, depending on the model, ranges from 85 to 165 dollars.
