The next version of the famous toy is equipped with a number of new features designed to diversify the gameplay.
The basic principles of the popular toy from the Japanese company Bandai Namco have remained unchanged - an egg shape and a small screen with three buttons below it. And the goal is the same, which is to grow a virtual pet that hatches from an egg, grows and requires constant attention, for example, asks to be fed or played with.
The main difference between the 90s model and the 2021 model is the presence of the camera. Thanks to her, the owner of the Tamagotchi Pix has the opportunity to take photos with his pet. To create a picture, there is a special button in the form of a broken shell, located at the top of the device.
True, it will be possible to view finished images only on the gadget itself (the screen of which has become better compared to previous versions), it is impossible to transfer files to computers or smartphones. But there is the possibility of exchanging photos with the owners of Tamagotchi Pix - for this you will need to read a special QR code from the screen of another device using the camera.
Some changes have also affected the gameplay itself, to which new options have been added. For example, a pet can now receive a profession, the choice of which determines the subsequent care of him. And to feed your pet, you can either cook food for this or order delivery.
The cost of the new toy is $59.99. It's already available for pre-order, but sales won't start until July.
This is not the first time that Bandai Namco has revived the Tamagotchi. So, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its presence in the US market, the company released a smaller version of the pocket pet in 2017. And in 2019, the Tamagotchi On model with a color screen was introduced to the world, which, according to company representatives, became extremely popular (official sales data for this model were not published). There were other Tamagotchis, but for the most part they were sold exclusively in Japan.
The company said that in nearly a quarter of a century of presence on the market, it has sold about 82 million Tamagotchis worldwide. The brand was first introduced in 1996 in Japan, and the following year it also entered the markets of other countries, where it subsequently returned several times. At home, the gadget has been successfully sold all these decades, becoming the best-selling toy for children in the country.
