Lightning-shaped bottles with the Tesla logo for $250 appeared on sale on the company's official website, only to disappear a few hours later.
Tesla introduced its own batch of tequila in unusual lightning-shaped bottles worth $250 back in November 2020. At that time, the limited-edition batch sold out within hours of going on sale. The second batch, already expected by fans of the brand for four months, went on sale on Monday, March 15. And just like the first one, it sold out immediately.
Teslaquila was originally planned to be the name for the carmaker's tequila. That was the word Elon Musk used in his tweet, when in 2018 he jokingly described himself next to a Model 3 car surrounded by bottles of Teslaquila. However, Mexican regulators did not allow the renaming of the traditional drink.
Tequila for Tesla is produced by the American company Nosotros Tequila. The drink is described as "añejo premium tequila on 100% agave, aged in French oak barrels, with an aroma of dried fruit and vanilla with a balanced aftertaste of cinnamon and pepper.
Buyers who did not get a drink with the famous logo of Ilon Musk's company may not be upset. As the practice of selling the first batch of Tesla tequila showed, quite a large part of customers who bought bottles did it for subsequent resale. The very next day after the bottles appeared on the manufacturer's official site, they could be purchased on eBay. However, the price could be as high as several thousand dollars.
