Line of professional notebooks currently produced by the company Lenovo. Until 2005, the brand belonged to IBM.
First laptops ThinkPad appeared in 1992. The brand name carries the slogan IBM — Think! and is derived from "notepad" ("notebook"). The author of the slogan is an employee of the company Danny Wainwright. The first model was the ThinkPad 700, built on the basis of the 486th Intel processor and equipped with a 120 MB hard drive. At the same time, some features of the line were laid down, which have been preserved to this day. First of all, this is the TrackPoint - a miniature joystick on the keyboard that replaces the mouse (the now so familiar "touchpads" appeared on laptops IBM much later). Also a characteristic feature was the blue Enter key. And of course, the “clumsy” angular design, which causes frank bewilderment among many people. In fact, this design is the result of the joint work of several well-known designers. And it is he who attracts many fans of the series, many of whom are conservative. By the way, the cost of the first ThinkPad amounted to almost 4500 US dollars.

laptops ThinkPad were very well received by the public and quickly became popular among professionals of various professions, from programmers to journalists. Perhaps only designers avoid them, giving historical preference Apple. What can I say - popular ThinkPad became in such a field as astronautics, having managed to visit space more than once. The military also use them willingly.
To date, laptops ThinkPad are the owners of many (several hundred) very prestigious awards and prizes, which they have received for build quality, reliability and ergonomics. So, their keyboards are considered the most convenient of all existing ones. Keyboard backlighting is one of the characteristic features of the line.
Despite the fact that now the production and development ThinkPad is no longer IBM, but another company, the line still remains very respected and revered among professionals and big business.
