The editors of the popular technical resource Engadget have compiled a rating of laptops recommended as good tools for studying.
The list includes models that were previously reviewed by Engadget and received the most positive ratings. But we immediately draw your attention - in the presented rating there are no budget models at all, only those costing more than $800. The fact is that, according to its compilers, a laptop is a very important tool and saving on it is simply not justified. In addition, by purchasing any of the models described below, you can completely forget about the need for updates for several years.
Apple MacBook Pro 13

According to the editors, they did not immediately agree on what to choose from Apple: Pro or Air. After all, these models have a lot in common, including the design of the keyboard, screen resolution and a set of ports (two USB-C). But even the entry-level Pro will give you better performance than the Air. In addition, the firmware is equipped with a screen with a wider color gamut and a TouchBar touch panel. However, you should also consider the fact that the Pro is $$200 more expensive and costs from $1299 (here and below prices are for the US market). But even if you get the Air, you can't go wrong either, because you get a lightweight laptop (1.25 kg) with an exceptionally durable battery that can last about 13 hours of video playback.
ASUS ZenBook S13

This model is suitable for those who want to not only learn, but also play. It made the list thanks to its compact size (13.9-inch screen), good battery and discrete NVIDIA MX150 GPU. Users can also choose models with different processors, while the base configuration with Core i7, 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD will cost $1299. The set of connectors here includes 2 USB-C and one full-size USB. The editors of Engadget noted the comfortable keyboard of the laptop, but considered the location of the fingerprint scanner impractical. Asus also referred to the disadvantages of not the best webcam. However, such shortcomings cannot be called any significant.
Dell XPS 13

Models of this series have already repeatedly received the most positive ratings from the Engadget editors. Indeed, this is a well-balanced and well-thought-out device from well-known Dell brand, attractive in appearance, very convenient to use, equipped with a high-quality screen and a durable battery. The 2019 model can last up to 12.5 hours of video playback, which is noticeably better than the 10 hours of the 2018 version. The Dell XPS 13 doesn't have discrete graphics, but that won't be a problem if you don't plan on gaming. In addition, this is one of the most affordable models in this rating - the cost of the younger version with a Core i3 processor is $ $899.
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

While the Dell XPS 13 named above is our editors' favorite Windows laptop, it's rated by Engadget as the best all-in-one solution. Naturally, the cost in this case is higher and starts from $1000. It has a 13.4-inch 16:10 aspect ratio screen and an even more attractive design that has more metal elements than the regular XPS 13. However, in this case, before making a purchase, you should consider whether you need a laptop that can turn into a tablet. It is possible that such a solution looks attractive, but in practice, most users simply do not need hybrids.
Microsoft Surface Laptop 2

This laptop can be advised to those who want to get an analogue of the MacBook Air, only with Windows. Needless to say, Microsoft itself compares the Surface Laptop 2 on its product page with the Air six times. If you're looking for something equally thin and light but for Windows, then this 13.5-inch model is a good choice. The Surface 2 weighs about the same as the Air, is very thin, has a comfortable keyboard and nearly 16 hours of continuous use. The original design should also be attributed to the features of this model. The only noticeable drawback is the presence of only one USB-connector. As for the cost, with the intention of capturing the market, Microsoft is desperately dumping, thanks to which the price of the Surface starts from $799.
