According to approximate estimates of experts, the trademark Torchin occupies a little more than a third of the entire Ukrainian food market.
The brand name comes from a small Ukrainian village, which is located in the Volyn region. In the village of Torchin, not far from Lutsk, there is an enterprise OJSC Volynholdingwhich is engaged in the production of food products. The company started its activity in 1994, its first product was mineral water. For the first few months of its existence, the company used the inscription “Donald Duck” as a trademark. But in 1995, either having finally seen a Disney cartoon, or having received requests to confirm the rights to this brand, the company's management decides to change the name of the brand and, without hesitation, ties it to a geographical location, naming the brand Torchin product. In 2005, already owned Nestle, the brand shortens its name and now it is just Torchin.
To expand the range, the company, in addition to mineral water, began to produce ketchups, mayonnaises, and mustard. An innovative moment was the launch in 1998 of products in the so-called doe-pack (“doypack”), special, convenient, soft packaging.
Since the end of 2003 OJSC Volynholding wholly owned by the corporation Nestle. The purchase of 100% shares of the enterprise, according to some reports, cost Nestle in 10-14 million US dollars. brand Torchin, known for many years both on the Ukrainian market and in neighboring countries, after its transfer to the property Nestle received additional competitive advantages provided by the world famous corporation.
The popularity of the trademark is so strong that under it, products that have long been known in other countries enter the Ukrainian market. For example, brands Maggie “Hot mug”, “10 vegetables”, seasoning “Chicken” in Ukraine are known under the brand Torchin, as marketers decided Nestleconsidering brand recognition and popularity.
Torchin, providing 98% sales OJSC Volynholding, allows the company to remain the leader of the mayonnaise and ketchup market in Ukraine for many years, to conquer the markets of its neighbors: Russia, Belarus, Moldova. The goal of the company is to enter the rest of the markets of Eastern Europe, perhaps in the very distant future and the world will learn about such a trademark.
