USA. Well-known chain of discount stores Sam's Club intends to enter the market of alcoholic beverages with its own brand of vodka. By the end of January, it will appear in 240 stores of the company.
Network, subsidiary Wal-Mart Stores Inc., will release a premium 'French' vodka, Rue 33. It is aimed at serious customers and will be sold in large, 1.75-liter bottles for about $28.
The release of alcoholic beverages by retail chains is not a particularly common practice in the United States, however, a competitor Sam's Club, company costcoalso owns its own brand Kirklandunder which vodka, scotch, tequila, wines and beer are produced.
According to Associated PressVodka is the most popular alcoholic drink in the United States. In 2008, the total income from its sale amounted to $4.49 billion (net profit is unknown).
