In 1861, one remarkable event took place - a new geographical magazine began to appear in St. Petersburg "Around the World". It is one of the oldest scientific and educational journals in the world. It was founded by the famous Russian publisher and bookseller Mavriky Osipovich Wolf. The reason for its release was the desire of the publisher to expand the audience of their products, his understanding of the needs of readers of that time, "ripe" for such periodicals.
For a century and a half, the magazine has gone through several eras, managed to turn from Russian into Soviet, and then again Russian. It was published almost continuously, except for two breaks during the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars.

Initially, the magazine was conceived as exclusively geographical. But gradually its subject began to expand. Now on the pages "Around the world" write literally about everything that is related to the sciences and interesting to a wide range of readers. Here you can find both reviews of the latest achievements in the field of physics and space research, as well as biographies of historical figures.
The circulation of the journal is in the hundreds of thousands of copies. Over the years of its existence, it has changed publishers several times. Now publishing it Group of companies "Around the world", which in addition to it produces various guidebooks and applications, as well as an almanac "Noon. XXI Century", whose editor is the famous science fiction writer Boris Strugatsky. In addition to the main publishing activity, Group of companies "Around the world" organizes and conducts various events, olympiads and even expeditions.
In addition to Russia, the magazine is published under license in some neighboring countries and the CIS. The publishing house is headquartered in Moscow.
