Previously, we could only see the Volkswagen ID.3 in conceptual form. Now we have been presented with a production model.
At the 2019 IAA Motor Show in Frankfurt, Volkswagen presented its first mass-produced electric vehicle built on the MEB platform. The company is confident that the VW ID.3 model will be "popular" and will become no less significant than the Beetle or Golf.
The rear-wheel drive car received a 150 kW engine. The batteries are integrated into the cabin floor, which ensures a low center of gravity. The car boasts a good weight distribution between the axles.
Customers can choose between three versions that differ in battery capacity. In the younger version, it will be 45 kWh, which will provide a power reserve of up to 330 km; the average will receive a battery of 58 kWh and a power reserve of 420 km; in the maximum version, the capacity will already be 77 kWh, which is enough to drive 550 km. Owners of the middle and older versions will have the opportunity to get 290 km of travel in 30 minutes of recharging (optional for the younger version). Volkswagen provides for the battery a guarantee of 8 years or a mileage of 160 thousand km.
It is especially noted that thanks to the electric motor, it was possible to achieve greater interior capacity, despite the fact that the ID.3 has the dimensions of a Golf class. Depending on the version, the load capacity can vary from 416 to 541 kg, while the weight of the car in the minimum version is 1719 kg.
We need to praise the designers of the company - outside and inside the ID.3 looks just fine and will appeal to representatives of various generations. The salon is executed in an attractive combination of white and orange colors. The instrument panel is replaced by a color screen, another 10-inch touch screen is designed to control the infotainment system. In the best modern traditions, the possibility of voice control is provided. Additional features will vary by version. So, in the top solution, the driver will have a full range of various assistance systems, an 8.1 format Beats audio system, even an AR projection display for displaying additional information on the windshield, etc.
The VW ID.3 is expected to go on sale closer to mid-2020. At the same time, the cost of the basic version will be less than €30,000.
