With a German airline Lufthansa strict rules - a pilot who has reached the age of 60 is automatically retired, regardless of his wishes. This is done for security purposes. But now the situation will change.
This rule has existed in the company for many decades. It suited both the company itself and the union. However, there were several dissatisfied pilots who filed for Lufthansa to court accusing the carrier of discrimination.
And as it turns out, there is no evidence that 60 years is a critical age for a pilot. For this reason, the court decided that there was indeed discrimination. So now Lufthansa I need to rethink my rules. Now the company is discussing all the nuances with the trade union of German pilots.
As for safety, if one of the pilots is 60 years old, then the other must be younger.
