Game console of the seventh generation of the Japanese company Nintendo. Being very simple in technical terms, the compact device offered users a fundamentally new approach to the very process of the game, thanks to which it became extremely popular, significantly ahead of competitors (Xbox 360 и PlayStation 3). To a large extent, this success was facilitated by the price. Wii, which was initially quite low ($ 250 at the time of the start of sales), unlike the same competitors.
However, initially Nintendo and did not think to position my brainchild as a competitor to devices from Microsoft и Sony. All focus on creating Wii was made on an innovative wireless controller - Wii Remote, which allowed not only to play while sitting in a chair, but to actively participate in the game. Operating principle Wii Remote relatively simple - thanks to the presence of accelerometers, the controller responds to changes in its position in space. As a result, it became possible to create specialized controllers for certain types of games - fishing rods, boxing gloves, guitars, baseball bats ... Manufacturers of various accessories and software immediately took advantage of this opportunity - there are games sold immediately with a special controller, which is difficult to do without, and that is not possible at all.

There are cases when users, having played too much, smashed the screens of their TVs with the controller. The most interesting thing is that, for all its merits, Wii is not able to provide a high level of graphics, significantly inferior in this matter to other consoles. Thus experience Nintendo shows that beautiful graphics in games are far from everything. By the way, some gamers are advised to buy Wii in any case, as a second game console.
At Wii backward compatibility is also excellent - the user has the opportunity to use accessories from previous generation consoles and play old games.
Sales Wii started first in the USA (November 2006), then in Europe and Japan (December 2006).
Name Wii comes from a stylization of the English word “we” (“we”). Specialists from Nintendo tried to transform it so that the word is read the same way by people of different languages and cultures. And, of course, it was easy to remember.
