The musician sent an official statement of intent to change his name to the Los Angeles Supreme Court.
American rapper and music producer Kanye West, winner of 21 Grammy Awards, has decided to officially change his name to his stage name "Ye". It is reported by People, citing sources close to the singer's entourage.
It is known that Kanye has already sent an official statement of his intention to change his name to the Los Angeles Supreme Court. The cover letter lists “personal reasons” as the main reason.
Kanye himself has repeatedly noted that Ye is part of his real name and, at the same time, has a religious meaning, denoting the pronoun “you” in the Bible. For the first time, West announced his intention to change his name in 2018, informing fans that he would take this step after the release of the album of the same name.
Under current California law, anyone can freely change their name. The only obstacle to the change of name may be the presence of illegal actions on the part of the applicant, who thereby wants to hide from justice.
Kanye West is one of the most popular contemporary musicians. He has seven studio albums and 27 singles sold with a total circulation of more than 120 million copies. In 2020, Forbes magazine ranked Kanye West as the second highest paid artist with $170 million in annual income.
