The Peugeot 208 became the best car in Europe according to the prestigious Car of the Year award. The victory for the French hatchback was awarded by the decision of the jury of the competition, which included 60 journalists from 23 European countries. In the overall ranking, the car, first introduced by Peugeot in the winter of 2019, received 281 points. On the second line is the electric car Tesla Model 3, who scored 242 points, and closed the top three Porsche Taycan with 222 points. The finalists also included Renault Clio (211 points), Ford Puma (209), Toyota Corolla (152) and BMW 1-series (133).
The organizers of the award note that the new Peugeot 208 from the moment of its appearance immediately gained great popularity due to its functionality, characteristic external and internal style and value for money. The hatchback only comes with a 5-door body style, but offers a choice of petrol and diesel engines, well-executed trim options and, most importantly, the aura of an all-electric version for which the platform was prepared from the very beginning of development. As a result, she received the same interior and trunk as the versions with classic engines.
This little Peugeot created for the city, with a maximum of 130-horsepower engine, 8-speed automatic transmission and the ability to reach speeds of up to 150 km/h. The electric version of the car is fully charged in 5 hours, on the 80% in just 30 minutes.
“The best small Peugeot in years: it looks great, comes with competitive powertrains and even an electric version with more than adequate performance,” commented the Car of the Year jury.
