German automaker BMW has unveiled a new version of the 1 Series hatchback.
The cars switched to a front-wheel drive platform, which was based on the platforms of the 2-Series Gran Tourer, as well as the X1 and X2 crossovers.
The new BMW 1 Series, which will now be only a five-door, includes several diesel versions with 1.6 and 2-liter engines, as well as gasoline ones with 1.5 and 2-liter units. Four-wheel drive can be added to one of the modifications as an additional option. New 1 Series hatchbacks are available with 6-speed manual, 7-speed automatic or 8-speed automatic.
The body design of the updated series received the distinctive features of the German brand. BMW offers the Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport trim levels to the choice of buyers. For the first time in the 1 Series, it is possible to order a car with a panoramic roof.
The flagship car M135i xDrive received a two-liter engine from the X2 (306 hp), a special aerodynamic body kit, as well as an adaptive suspension, a sports brake system and lowered ground clearance. The M135i xDrive can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
The official premiere of the updated BMW 1-Series will take place in the summer of 2019 in Munich, after which the cars will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is expected that the first sales of new cars will start in September.
