The creation of a new color reflects the ongoing global innovation and transformation in the world.
The Pantone Color Institute, which has been annually choosing the main shade of the year for two decades, has decided on a new favorite. Lilac Very Peri (17-3938) has been named Color of the Year 2022.
It is noted that for the first time in the existence of the nomination, Pantone did not choose from an existing palette, but created a new color on its own.

Very Peri is described by Pantone as "a dynamic feathery blue with a revitalizing purple-red undertone that combines the fidelity and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red."
The creators of the shade emphasize that color represents a new vision of the future, in which people's perceptions of standards change, and digital possibilities expand the real boundaries, merging with the physical world. When creating a new shade, experts were inspired by the growing popularity of the metaverse.

“The creation of a new color reflects ongoing global innovation and transformation. As society continues to recognize color as an essential form of communication… the complexity of this new red-violet hue with a touch of blue highlights the vast possibilities that lie ahead of us,” said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

The Pantone Institute has been choosing the main color since 2000, conducting trend forecasting research to justify its choice. Last year, for the first time, there were two winners - Ultimate Gray, a simple gray color, and Illuminating, a cheerful yellow. The year before last, the blue color called Classic Blue was named the main one.
