The show became a "creative cornucopia" of Virgil's greatest hits and new ideas.
Louis Vuitton held the final runway presentation of Virgil Abloh, who passed away on November 28, 2021. The Spring/Summer 2022 collection was shown in a secluded location in the Port of Miami.
The show was planned long before the global community was shocked by the tragic news of the death of the creative director of the LV menswear line and one of the most prominent designers of our time.
The company decided not to cancel the show, but to turn it into a tribute to the memory of Abloh, who changed the world of fashion several years ago. The show was called "Virgil Was Here" - a corresponding illuminated inscription appeared in the sky over Miami after its completion.
Experts noted that the show became a kind of "creative cornucopia" of Virgil's greatest hits and new ideas. Many elements from past collections were reinterpreted in completely new images under the guidance of the designer.
Glittering suits, puffy tulle skirts, frilly jackets and amorphous coats were presented in slightly distorted proportions to reflect Virgil's dynamic vision of the ready-to-wear.
The event was attended by Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and other celebrities from among Abloh's close friends. After the final procession, members of the Louis Vuitton design team gathered to bid Virgil a tearful farewell to music and festive fireworks.
"When Virgil reached the height of his power, he got to the point where he wasn't just making things and selling them. He was rewriting the Newtonian laws of the culture industry," said Highsnobiety editor-in-chief Tom Bettridge.
